Read boat speed in knots
Boat mode starts with knots and nautical-mile distance. You can change units without changing the underlying measurement. One nautical mile is 1,852 meters.
This tool can be used by passengers on a boat, ship or ferry when their device provides valid data. Reception and browser support vary; on-water field testing of Xpeed has not been completed.
Understand speed over ground
A location-based measurement describes movement relative to the ground. It does not measure movement through the water or provide depth, current, heading guidance or collision information.
Use proper marine instruments and local navigation guidance. The phone display is an additional reference.
Questions and answers
When does the browser ask for location?
Press Start to request location. If you have already allowed this site, measurement can begin without another prompt. A blocked permission must be changed in your browser or device settings.
What does a dash mean?
A dash means Xpeed has no usable recent reading. A measured zero is a valid speed. Returning to the page or moving to a place with better reception may help the device provide a new reading.
